A MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE Inspiral, a new voluntary group led by people recovering from substance misuse has recently been set up in Perth. The initiative, supported by P&K Alcohol and Drugs Partnership, is being managed through PLUS, a third sector organisation based in the centre of town. PLUS, well known locally for mental health campaigning, was awarded the funding to facilitate the groupas a result of past successes in the field of service user involvement, anti stigma work and recovery. Inspiral is aligned to the Scottish Drug Recovery Consortium and part of a growing movement across Scotland spreading the message that people can and do recover from substance misuse. The work of the group will be carried out by volunteers – people with experience of substance misuse themselves. The main focus in the first year is to train and develop the volunteer workforce, publicise the work of Inspiral, identify new funding streams and establish a local recovery network.
